WINGATE — Chesley "Chet" Holmes, 57, owner and operator of the Wingate garage for the past 38 years, died Monday evening in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Indianapolis. He had been a patient there for six weeks. He served four years with the Army Air Force during World War II. Most of his service was in England. Mr. Holmes was a member of the Masonic Lodge 633, American Legion Post 174 and the Wingate Volunteer Fire Department. Born July 8, 1914, he was the son of Thomas and Minnie Cadawaller Holmes. He was married Aug. 24, 1954, to Agnes Hines. She survives. He was preceded in death by his father in 1950 and his mother in March of this year. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Rob James officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Masonic services will be conducted in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
